Dream is one of the mediums through which God speaks to us. As humans God speaks to us through dreams but we are not sensitive. If you are not that sensitive things will take you by surprise. Job 33:14-15 says “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep calleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;”
The verses16-18 further gives us reasons why God makes us dream;
- “then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instructions”.
- “That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man”
- “He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword”.
Some dreams are prophetic. God uses dreams to warn us. (Laban and Jacob’s story Genesis 31:24). Dreams come to warn us about impending danger. In Matthew 2: 13-23, God told Joseph to flee with Mary to Egypt; for King Herod would seek to kill the child Jesus. Dreams tell us what is to come. Genesis 41:1-36 (Joseph interprets Pharao’s dream). The dream helped Pharaoh to plan for the next fourteen years. Some people even receive deliverance through dreams.
God is still speaking to us through dreams; be sensitive.
If you are able to understand it you will know what to do. Daniel chapter 2 tells us that Nebucchadnezer had a dream and Daniel had to pray to God for its interpretation. Having heard the interpretation, he affirmed that Daniel’s God was God of all gods and revealer of mysteries. Some dreams also reveal mysteries.
Some come to tell us about God’s plan for us. Joseph dreamt that the sun and the moon were bowing down to him and it happened in real life. (Genesis 37:9) His brothers bowed to him though they tried to prevent it from happening. God used the dream to reveal to Joseph about his greatness in the future. So when you dream and you don’t understand it, pray for its meaning: God will surely give you the meaning.
Some dreams feel so real; don’t ignore them. Somebody can dream that he is dead but he does not do anything about it and he dies.This is pure ignorance. We pray against bad dreams. We pray for the good dreams to manifest. If you are not sure of the meaning of a dream, pray that if it is bad God should cancel it and if it is good he should let it manifest.
Certain situations can be avoided if we pay attention to our dreams.
