When God created man, he gave everything including wisdom to guide him. According to Psalm 119.105 …“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.
Wisdom has been granted us for free yet not all of us have it because of the paths we have chosen.
The company we keep has profound impact on our lives; surrounding ourselves with the wise can influence our thoughts, actions and destiny.
According to proverbs 1, “the purpose of the book of Proverbs is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.
It is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.
Proverbs 1:20-21 says “Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square. She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate”. The verse 23 says “Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.
It is good to surround ourselves with people who encourage and challenge us.
Walking with the wise offers numerous benefits such as transforming our lives spiritually, emotionally and intellectually.
The Bible advises us to get wisdom (wisdom is the principal thing.. get wisdom; with all thy getting, get understanding. .. Prov. 4:7)
If we listen to advice and learn from our mistakes and that of others, we will be wiser.
As Proverbs 1:8-19 puts it, “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:”
1 Cor. 15:33 ‘ Do not be misled, bad company corrupts good character.
The best counsellor or friend we can ever have is the Holy Spirit. If we ask Him anything concerning life, we will not make mistakes. He directs our path. He can even choose our friends for us. By relying on the word and Holy Spirit, we will make wise decisions in life.
The first thing we have to do is to ‘fear the LORD, it is the beginning of wisdom.
