Do not look at the odds that are against you. Look unto God for his strategies and victory.
When the enemy attacks us, like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19).
This standard brings to mind the strategies God provided Israel in times of war. God is the ultimate strategist in life battles, where prayer and divine direction lead to victory.
I have a friend who used to encounter marine and demonic spirits often in her dreams, sometimes a ship full of them around her. As she wondered how she was going to get rid of all these spirits through prayers, one by one, the Holy Spirit reminded her about the strategies God used to overcome Israel ‘s enemies. When Elijah encountered the 50 soldiers sent by Ahaziah, he called upon the fire of God to consume them all at once.
Just as Israel’s wars required distinct strategies, our life battles demand unique approaches for victory.
Who would have thought that just a single stone could stop Goliath from harassing Israel. It did not only stop him, it scattered all those who were with him.
When God is on your side, the odds against you become irrelevant.
In 2 Kings 1, Elijah, the prophet, was confronted by an army of 50 men sent by King Ahaziah. Though Elijah didn’t directly provoke the king, his obedience to God’s word continually thwarted the king’s plans against Israel. What do we learn here?
We may feel innocent, yet the divine favor on our lives can disrupt the enemy’s schemes provoking him to target us.
In Elijah’s case, God’s strategy was to unleash heavenly fire, consuming the enemy instantly.
Sampson, a Nazirite was born to deliver Israel from Philistine oppression; when he was confronted by 3,000 men, Sampson by divine strength, used an animal’s jawbone to defeat them.
In 2 Chronicles 20, God instructed Jehoshaphat to use praise and worship to defeat his enemies. In other cases like Joshua’s battle, the sun stood still to ensure victory.
God caused the Syrian army to hear the sound of chariots and horses instead of the foot steps of the lepers, leading them to flee in panic, without a single soldier from Samaria engaging them in battle (2 Kings 7:6-7).
In the new testament, Paul wrote about a new strategy which is the importance of spiritual armor, including the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, and sword of the Spirit, to combat spiritual enemies (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Another strategy we learned from Jesus is that some spiritual battles require prayer and fasting to overcome (Matthew 17:14-21, Mark 9:14-29).
This underscores the fact that the battle ultimately belongs to the Lord.
Some of our battles or challenges may seem insurmountable, like Goliath or the Philistines, yet God’s strategies are always effective and often unexpected because He has antedote to every situation. Just do not rely solely on your strength. Let us take a cue from the Israelites who consistently sought God’s counsel before engaging in any battle.
No matter the number of your attackers, put your trust in God for victory. With God on our side we are always in the majority, outnumbering our enemies. I am not sure you have three thousand enemies coming at you at a go like Sampson’s situation.
To advance in life, you may need to overcome obstacles and fight to expand your horizons. When we are faced with such challenges, let us trust God to provide the strategies we need.
We are sure of victory when ‘the captain of the host of heaven’ is on our side.
The bible says ‘they shall surely gather together but not by me, whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake’ (Isaiah 54:15). This should be enough assurance for us to gather courage to stand our grounds, knowing that God is with us.
As we face life’s battles, we can draw strength from the Exodus story that:
Challenges will inevitably arise, but with faith and perseverance, we can conquer them.
When you’re unable to fight, God will raise up a deliverer like Moses to lead you to victory.
Throughout history, we see examples of God’s intervention. When King Saul lacked courage, David was empowered to defeat Goliath. And when Jezebel’s wickedness seemed unstoppable, God anointed Jehu to bring her reign of terror to an end.
Trust God to send the right person to bring victory and deliverance in your life.
May God grant us the power and confidence to face our battles and win, ignoring the numbers or the magnitude of the situation.
