“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31).
Our spiritual strength wears out from time to time, so it is important to regain it through fasting and prayers and the word of God. That is the Christian’s source of power, depending on God. Our soul and spirit need strength to overcome the desires of the flesh. Doing the work of God requires spiritual strength. The bible teaches us to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. We receive things from God through waiting. It brings us close to God.
We also need spiritual strength to overcome the enemy, his persecution, his oppression, etc. It will take the strength of the Lord to overcome them. All of our help comes from the Lord. You need to be stronger because the enemy is strong. As it is written in Psalm 59:9-10 ‘Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: For God is my defense. The God of mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies.’
The food for our spirit/soul is fasting, prayers, the word and our faith. If you pay too much attention to food, spiritually, you become weak, so you need to balance the two.
Being unable to wait on God is like going without food. You become weak spiritually. You will lack the necessary equipment the spirit needs for you to withstand the wiles of the enemy.
Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually we wait on God. We make sacrifices during the wait. We fast, we spend time praying, we spend time reading the bible and so on. Before Moses could receive the 10 commandments for Israel, he had to wait on God on the mountain for 40 days. Joshua was asked not to depart from the word. He was to read it day and night to empower himself. And according to the bible, he became so powerful that he could command the sun to stay, and it did.
Psalm 105:4 says ‘Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.’ God is our source of power and strength. If you seek Him, you have all that it takes to be strong. You need to keep your fire burning all the time. The enemy is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour…. Be alert.
The bible also says in Isaiah 40:29 ‘He giveth power to the weak and to those who have no might, he increaseth strength.’
Certain situations also require us to wait on God through fasting and prayers. Matthew 17:21 (But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting). You may be facing some challenges that only prayers have not been able to change the situation. You may have to add fasting to increase the force.
Through waiting, we receive answers to our prayers as we align our will with His.
Psalm 40:1 says “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out the miry clay.”
Waiting on God has a lot of benefits such as confidence, hope encouragement, faith, boldness, peace, wisdom, joy. We can go on and on.
As we move about in our daily activities, we are being weighed spiritually all the time. You may not know who, but you can be blown away at their will. But if you are strong, the wind may blow but it will not take you away, you will still be standing strong.
