‘Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.’ Psalm 43:5
Life is full of uncertainties but with our hope in Christ Jesus, we are safe. Hope gives us something to live for. Our inability to hold on to hope puts us in despair. Circumstances also come to test our will to continue doing what we so very much wish to do or expect to happen.
Hope in effect is something we so very much wish to have in the future. The biblical interpretation of hope is our confidence in the expectation of the promises of God.
When we are able to reach our life goals our hopes get fulfilled.
And if it does not happen, then hopelessness sets in.
The feeling of hopelessness is one of the most challenging emotions one can have. It puts you in a situation where you will think there is nothing else to look forward to in life. It makes you think that is the end of your life.
We hope to get a placement in the school of our choice after learning hard for a good grade. We hope to get that job after school and become very respectable people in future. We are confident that our Daddy or a sibling will help us get to the top through their connections. When we are rejected by the school, or the company we are so confident will employ us , or the person we are hoping to link us dies; our hope looks as if it has crushed.
The bible tells us that when we have faith in Christ Jesus, we have hope for things eternal. Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you may abound in hope.”
This means that we need to feed our hope with something to keep it going and that is having faith in Jesus Christ. The God of hope. The continual feeding on the word, the promises, etc., help us to ‘hope against hope’ as Abraham did (Romans 4:18).
Job 11:18 says that ‘you will feel secure because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security.’ This is because Jesus will fill you with peace in such situations. You will not be shaken because of the assurance you have in Jesus. Jesus is our hope for the future.
If you are feeling hopeless, you can regain hope through Jesus Christ. He will renew your hope. Other opportunities will arise when you think others have closed.
The word of God is spirit and it gives us hope. It inspires us to move on in life in difficult times.
Depend on the word of God to regain hope if you think you have lost it. It is food to our soul.
