Life has a way of bringing us to our knees. When it does, let me give you an idea of how you can withstand the pressure. Have you seen how shock absorbers work? That is how Jesus is like in our lives. Every car has shock absorbers without which the shocks of life would be greatly felt. When a car falls into a pothole, passengers do not feel the impact because of the shock absorbers in the car, unless it is worn out. A story was told of a man who was following God’s steps as he walked. He could see his own foot prints and God’s footprints before him.

At a point the footprints he was following disappeared as the place became dark and slippery. He thought he was alone. And he asked God, ‘why did you leave me?’ and God answered him and said, the footprints you saw was mine and not yours, because I carried you when your way became dark and slippery. David had this assurance that ‘yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me …..’ . That was enough shock absorbers (faith) for him. It kept him going.

The promises of God take away the pressures and our fears; though you might think you are alone, He is still with you. He never leaves us. He cushions us. He says ‘when you go through the fire, I will be with you, when you pass through the waters I will be with you….’

Those are the shocks of life but when Jesus is with you, you will not feel it the way you should. For some people, the situation passes before they realize how serious it was and then they begin to thank God. Someone without these shock absorbers may not survive what you can survive. Kirk Franklin sung this song ‘With Jesus I can make it, with Him I know I can stand, no matter what may come my way, my life is in your hands’. He has tried and tested that Jesus really takes away all the pressures of life from him so whatever comes his way, he is sure to overcome. Let us walk in this knowledge. Do not be afraid of the future. Jesus is ever present if you will allow him. He will absorb all the shocks of your life and give you peace.
